It starts with scraps, but with a little creativity, a group of ladies turn thrown-out fabric into one-of-kind finds.

They're Hyde Park United Methodist Church's "Little Dresses" ministry: a team of tight-knit women who stitch hand-made dresses for children in need here at home and overseas.

"These little girls have never owned a dress of their own. They've never owned a new dress. And never not worn a hand-me-down," Little Dresses volunteer Kathy Pegram said.

In just four years, they've sewn well over 2,000 dresses...earn adorned with a meaningful message.

"We put a label in every dress that says, 'God loves you from Hyde Park United Methodist Church," volunteer coordinator Darrell Painter said.

"We started out by just using pillowcases!" Pegram laughed.

It's all part of a mission to give girls a gift they'll take pride in.

"You're able to do something for someone else. And we don't expect anything in return," Pegram said.

They are getting something some didn't expect: friendship and a deeper appreciation of fellowship.

"It's really a story of making God's love real," Painter said.

The ladies of Little Dresses don't leave out the boys. They've also stitched about 1,000 pairs of shorts.
